There is a serious shortage of crafts stores in the suburbs. If a big name chain doesn't have what you're looking for you have to put your trust in sellers online. I probably miss the availability of notions and fabrics the most from new york... and the amount of inspiration! This is where I ended up when google recommend local "ABC craft store" to me:
